Riyadh: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed from Riyadh to Baku, Azerbaijan, following his participation in the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. At Riyadh’s International Royal Terminal, he was seen off by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Farooq, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Naufal Saeed Al-Maliki, and other members of the diplomatic community. This farewell reflected the strong ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, marking the conclusion of a significant diplomatic exchange.
In Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Sharif is set to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP-29) Climate Action Summit in Baku, a gathering aimed at advancing climate resilience and sustainability. During this three-day visit, he will also represent Pakistan at the Climate Finance Roundtable Conference, where leaders and experts will strategize on mobilizing financial support for climate action in developing countries. The Prime Minister’s schedule includes participating in the “Glaciers 2025: Actions for Glaciers” event organized by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, and the UN’s “Delivering Early Warning for All and Addressing Extreme Heat” event, which will address global warming and the importance of timely warning systems.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Sharif will join a state dinner hosted by Azerbaijan’s President for world leaders, providing an informal platform to discuss international cooperation on climate initiatives. His engagements will also include bilateral meetings with various leaders to discuss strengthening relations and addressing Pakistan’s climate challenges. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi are accompanying him, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to climate diplomacy at the highest level.
