PM Shehbaz Sharif Thanks Azerbaijan for Support During South Asia Tensions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan for their steadfast support to Pakistan during the recent tensions in South Asia. He termed Azerbaijan’s solidarity as a manifestation of the enduring friendship between the two brotherly nations.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Khazar Farhadov, at the Prime Minister’s House. Appreciating the valiant efforts of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in the successful execution of “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos,” he noted that the nation was grateful to Allah Almighty for the decisive victory. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and acknowledged the country’s agreement to a ceasefire understanding with India in that spirit.

However, the Prime Minister firmly stated that Pakistan would continue to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and was fully prepared to respond to any future aggression. He expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, terming President Aliyev’s visit to Pakistan last year and his own visit to Baku earlier this year as significant milestones in strengthening economic, trade, and investment ties.

Ambassador Farhadov conveyed President Aliyev’s warm sentiments and felicitations to the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan on their recent success. He underscored Azerbaijan’s commitment to peace in the region and reaffirmed his dedication to advancing bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, in line with the vision of the leadership of both countries.
