Karachi: President Asif Ali Zardari underscored the urgent need for enhancing Chinese investment in Pakistan’s economy to strengthen the economic partnership between the two nations. Addressing a Chinese business delegation at Bilawal House, the President emphasized that greater economic cooperation could unlock new avenues for bilateral relations.
The delegation, led by Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong, expressed interest in investing $1 billion to establish a medical city in Pakistan, a project aimed at revolutionizing the healthcare sector. In addition, they showed intent to explore opportunities in agriculture, livestock, energy, transport, and manufacturing, marking a new chapter in Sino-Pak economic collaboration.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and provincial ministers also participated in the meeting, reaffirming Sindh’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign investment. The President assured full support for Chinese investors, emphasizing Pakistan’s strategic preference for strengthening ties with China.
Highlighting the historical bond between the two nations, President Zardari said, “China and Pakistan share a legacy of friendship and shared objectives. Developing Gwadar Port as a regional trade hub was part of my vision to enhance regional connectivity and cooperation.”
The President also praised the introduction of Chinese language courses in Sindh as a significant step toward deepening people-to-people and cultural ties between the two countries. He expressed confidence that these initiatives would bolster mutual understanding and collaboration.
The delegation appreciated the Pakistani leadership’s support and vowed to work closely to translate investment plans into tangible projects. They noted Pakistan’s potential as a key partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to facilitate Chinese investors, emphasizing the nation’s resolve to create opportunities that align with mutual interests. He said that a robust economic partnership with China would pave the way for prosperity in both countries.
With a shared vision of development and cooperation, the meeting marked another milestone in the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, further solidifying their strategic and economic partnership.
