President Zardari lauds outgoing Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins
Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday praised the services of outgoing Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins during his farewell call at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
A Presidency news release stated that President Zardari commended Hawkins for his efforts in strengthening Pakistan–Australia relations during his tenure. He highlighted the High Commissioner’s contributions in advancing cooperation in political, economic, and defence sectors, while also enhancing people-to-people ties between the two countries.
“Pakistan and Australia have long enjoyed friendly and cooperative relations, supported by shared interests and mutual respect. We must continue to build on this partnership,” the President said.
On economic ties, President Zardari noted that although bilateral trade is growing, it remains below its true potential. He emphasised the need to intensify efforts to expand trade and investment opportunities.
During the meeting, Mr. Hawkins briefed the President on his recent visit to Sindh and the ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and Australia in agriculture and climate change initiatives.
The High Commissioner said he and his family would carry fond memories of Pakistan, particularly the warmth and hospitality of its people. He also lauded Pakistan’s ethnic, linguistic, religious, and culinary diversity, describing the country as dynamic and vibrant.
Wishing Hawkins success in his future endeavours, President Zardari expressed hope that he would take with him enduring memories of Pakistan and its people.
