Lahore : Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and British High Commissioner in Pakistan Jane Marriott held a significant meeting to strengthen bilateral ties. They committed to boosting cooperation in health, education, and various other sectors. Maryam Nawaz provided an overview of Punjab’s initiatives, such as the first Women Virtual Police Station and Child Safety Virtual Centre, underscoring the government’s commitment to the safety and security of women and children.
In their discussion, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the upcoming solarisation project set to commence on August 14, aimed at providing economic relief through solar panels. She invited British companies to invest in this initiative, assuring that the bidding process would be transparent and merit-based. Additionally, she shared her vision for mitigating environmental pollution and transforming Punjab into South Asia’s largest digital hub.
Jane Marriott praised the Punjab government’s legislative measures, including the Punjab Sikh Marriage Act and the Child Marriage Bill. She also commended the province’s efforts in protecting minorities and enhancing safety initiatives for women and children. Both leaders expressed mutual appreciation for ongoing welfare and development projects supported by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in Punjab.
The meeting was attended by notable officials, including Senator Pervez Rasheed, Senior Provincial Minister Mariyyum Aurangzeb, and Additional Secretary Sara Hayat. From the British side, British High Commission Lahore Office President Clara Strandhoj and other officials were present. The discussions highlighted the strong partnership and shared commitment to progress and development between Punjab and the United Kingdom.
