Tahir Hussain Andrabi Appointed as New Spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Office
Islamabad: The government has appointed seasoned diplomat Tahir Hussain Andrabi as the new spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), replacing Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan.
The announcement was made by Ambassador Shafqat during his weekly press briefing on Friday. Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan has been designated as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the Foreign Office, Mr. Andrabi is currently serving as Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security (ACDIS). He also heads the Pakistan National Authority under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
A career diplomat with extensive experience, Mr. Andrabi earlier served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tunisia, concurrently accredited to Malta from 2021 to 2023. From 2017 to 2021, he was Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
He has also served in Beijing and New York, as well as held key assignments at the Foreign Office, including Director Foreign Minister’s Office, Director India, and Deputy Director Foreign Secretary’s Office.
Mr. Andrabi holds a degree from King Edward Medical University, Lahore; a Graduate Certification in Chinese Language from the Beijing Language and Culture University; and a Fellowship from the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
