The climate change will be significant impacts on geographic processes and ecosystems. As a result of these changes, glaciers are melting, ocean and sea levels are rising, biodiversity is being destroyed, natural disasters are increasing and their intensity is increasing, health problems are occurring, etc. complications are being observed.
From this point of view, it is necessary to take preventive measures to prepare for changing climate, adapt to the negative situations that may arise in connection with it, and reduce the severity of the problems.
It is known that, last year on 11’th of December, at the plenary session of COP28, Azerbaijan unanimously decided to hold the decision to hold the Changing Climate Conference of UN.
Based on this, the 29th of session (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan on 11-22th of November and this global event is a confirmation of Azerbaijan’s international reputation. The Future of Our Planet Will Discussed in Azerbaijan. As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated, COP29 is an indicator of the great respect and support for Azerbaijan from the international community: “We are in the active preparation stage.COP29 is a huge responsibility. It is not only about organisational issues, but also about achieving results.”
Civil society in Azerbaijan is also showing solidarity to promote and advance COP29.
The “COP29 NGO Coalition” has already been created, which unites more than 370 foreign NGOs from 80 countries.
Local NGOs are implementing a joint project related to COP29 together with foreign NGOs. Civil society organizations from all over the world are already supporting COP29.
Meetings of Azerbaijani and foreign NGOs on climate change are held regularly. NGOs that won the “International Initiatives Related to COP29” competition, announced jointly by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan for NGOs, are implementing creative projects related to COP29. In addition, the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations organized COP29 information events, infotours, marathons, etc. are being held.
Today, COP29 is on the agenda not only of Azerbaijan, but also of the whole world. We see that events related to COP29 are already being held in various countries. And it is very positive that, as always, Azerbaijanis from all over the world are also contributing to the propaganda and outreach work related to COP29.
This activity is carried out in several directions. Of course, first of all, propaganda work is carried out here, that is, it is done through the media. Another direction of activity is educational.
So, we are faced with measures to inform young people about COP29 in a number of countries. Azerbaijani youth, as well as representatives of local people living in different countries, participate in these events and seminars. The goal is to explain the importance of COP 29. At these events, Azerbaijan’s remorse for climate change in the world is discussed. Another direction of activity is related to the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World”.
This year, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared “the year of solidarity for the green world”. This year, Azerbaijanis living abroad are also holding events in various directions. In addition, our compatriots are holding a tree planting campaign within the framework of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World”.
