Washington : The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., commemorated Pakistan Defense and Martyrs’ Day with a solemn event that honored the bravery and sacrifices of the country’s armed forces. Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, in his keynote address, underscored the critical role that Pakistan’s military has played in defending the nation from both external threats and internal challenges. He highlighted the ongoing battle against terrorism, which has claimed the lives of over 80,000 Pakistanis, including 10,000 security personnel.
The Ambassador emphasized Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to international peace through United Nations peacekeeping missions, where over 235,000 Pakistani troops have served globally, with many making the ultimate sacrifice. He also reaffirmed the importance of the defense partnership between Pakistan and the United States, noting the continued cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, security, and humanitarian assistance.
Brigadier Irfan Ali, Pakistan’s Defence Attache, paid tribute to the men and women of the armed forces, acknowledging their professional excellence and unwavering commitment to the nation. He reassured that Pakistan remains resolute in overcoming the multifaceted security challenges it faces, including terrorism.
The event concluded with a powerful call for the international community to recognize the struggles and sufferings of the people of Kashmir, with the Ambassador urging global support for their right to self-determination. The gathering ended with a heartfelt tribute to those who have laid down their lives for the freedom and prosperity of Pakistan.
