Islamabad:The Pakistan-China Institute, under the leadership of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, successfully hosted a notable event as part of its ‘Friends of Silk Road’ series. This gathering uniquely brought together leaders from eight major political parties in Pakistan, both from the government and opposition, to show unified support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The event also delved into the implications of the recent 3rd Plenary Session of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on global dynamics.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed emphasized the pivotal role of the CPC in China’s rapid modernization and global influence, citing its success in economic growth and global leadership. He outlined five key factors behind China’s transformation, including leadership quality, policy continuity, and peaceful foreign policy. He praised China’s achievements since the 1979 reforms, highlighting its leap in GDP and global corporate presence.
Several other prominent political figures, including Senator Sherry Rehman and Senator Shibli Faraz, echoed these sentiments. They lauded China’s role in global development, particularly in the Global South, and the transformative impact of CPEC on Pakistan. Rehman specifically commended China’s Global Security Initiative and its contributions to clean energy development in the region, emphasizing its significance for sustainable growth.
Further, leaders like Saadia Khaqan Abbasi and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri underscored China’s leadership in technology and human development, while also emphasizing the enduring strength of Pakistan-China relations. They pointed to the CPC’s consistent policies and President Xi Jinping’s leadership as critical factors in China’s global success.
The event also highlighted the importance of academic collaboration between Pakistani and Chinese institutions, as discussed by Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi. Additionally, Taha Ahmed Khan from MQM stressed the strategic importance of Karachi within the CPEC framework and condemned recent attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
The Chinese Embassy’s Minister-Counsellor, Yang Nuo, emphasized the importance of the Third Plenary Session of the CPC, describing it as a blueprint for China’s continued progress. The event concluded with a joint statement read by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, reaffirming the commitment of all participating political parties to strengthen Pakistan’s relationship with China and sustain the momentum of CPEC.
The gathering, which saw participation from over 200 individuals across various sectors, highlighted the strong, bipartisan support for deepening ties with China, reflecting the consensus on the importance of CPEC for Pakistan’s future development. The event underscored the shared resolve to ensure the success of this strategic partnership, which is seen as crucial for the prosperity and stability of the region.
