US Ambassador Commends Pakistan’s Efforts to Modernise Railway Infrastructure
Islamabad: The United States Acting Ambassador to Pakistan, Natalie Baker, on Sunday visited the historic Golra Railway Station and its adjoining Railway Museum, where she was briefed on the site’s cultural and historical importance.
Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi received the visiting envoy and briefed her on the recent upgradation and preservation efforts undertaken to restore the colonial-era station to its former glory.
During the visit, Minister Abbasi gave Ambassador Baker a detailed tour of the Golra Station, the Quaid-e-Azam Saloon, and the heritage museum, which showcases vintage locomotives, carriages, and railway equipment from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The ambassador took keen interest in U.S.-made railway machinery and instruments displayed at the museum. Abbasi also informed her about the government’s ongoing modernization and reform initiatives under his leadership.
He noted that major stations in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Faisalabad have been upgraded and digitized in line with international standards. He also highlighted the establishment of Pakistan’s first “Safe and Smart Railway Station” in Rawalpindi.
Appreciating the minister’s reform agenda, Ambassador Baker described Hanif Abbasi as a true “railway reformist” steering the institution toward modernization and efficiency.
The minister underscored that Pakistan Railways remains a vital national asset and a symbol of the country’s cultural heritage and international connectivity.
Ambassador Baker expressed admiration for the beauty and preservation of the Golra Railway Station, terming it a remarkable representation of Pakistan’s historical legacy.
