VIII Congress of World and Traditional Religions Set for September 17-18 in Astana
Astana, Kazakhstan : The capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, will host the VIII Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions on 17–18 September 2025 under the chairmanship of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The Congress is expected to bring together more than 100 delegations from about 60 countries, including spiritual leaders of Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, and Shinto. Scholars, political and public figures, and representatives of international organizations will also participate in the gathering.
Themed “Dialogue of Religions: Synergy for the Future,” the Congress will focus on promoting dialogue and cooperation among civilizations to address pressing global challenges.
The series of events will begin on 16 September with the XXIII Session of the Secretariat and a special session on safeguarding religious sites under the auspices of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. On 17 September, President Tokayev will preside over the opening and plenary session of the Congress, while 18 September will see breakout sessions, the II Forum of Young Religious Leaders, and the closing ceremony.
The Congress, held biennially in Astana, has become a significant platform for interfaith dialogue and strengthening cooperation among world religions.
